The Folio is the only music server on the market that uses lossless compression by default. This means that every track stored on the Folio contains the same unadulterated sound as the CD to deliver the full sonic detail. Other music servers use lossless compression but because they have a smaller capacity they are unable to store the same volume of CDs. With the Folio, you do not have to sacrifice quantity for quality.
Lossy compression removes some data, which results in the music sounding virtually the same but not as pure as the original. This is how music is stored on smaller devices such as MP3 players.
By carefully selecting the best components and utilising the best designs, the Folio gives you the highest sound quality. Most notably, the Folio is powered from a linear power supply. Very high performance regulators are employed on separate power rails just to feed the audio stages, decreasing the noise floor and increasing the depth and quality of the sound. Other music servers use switch mode power supplies which leads to high frequency noise finding its way on to the audio.
